These types of posts are never easy. Yesterday seemed like a pretty normal day but instead turned out to be one with great sadness. Our beloved bearded dragon Kimbo passed away yesterday due to health issues.

Every day for the past 7 1/2 years we’ve enjoyed her company and her personality and really felt love for her no differently than a dog or cat. We raised her from a little baby to a full size adult. She was so beautiful and funny and became just one of the cats.

It was a nice warm day yesterday so I let her outside to enjoy the sun not knowing this would be the last few hours of her life. Saying goodbye to a friend is one of the hardest things we endure as humans because it’s permanent. We’ll miss her terribly. Forever Kimbo ❤️

Throwback - 20 years ago I scored this full page photo in TransWorld BMX magazine. I've had a few moments in my riding career that felt so amazing & this was one of them so I figured I'd share some of the back story with you.

Early January 2003 Keith Mulligan was visiting Orlando & asked me if I wanted to shoot some photos, which I of course replied hell yeah! I was a big fan of Keith's work and we always had a fun time talking about Star Wars stuff and just life in general.

I had this new trick in mind that I had recently learned which was a 360 bar flip where I jump up in the air as the bars rotate undeneath me & land back on the bike. After Keith set up his remote flashes we spent around 3 hours that day shooting photos. I mostly did that one trick over & over the entire time we were there. Then we packed everything up & headed out.

5 months later when this issue came out I had a subscription so I received my copy a few days earlier than the book stores & flipped through the mag quickly like I usually did just to get a feel for the content. When I got near the back of the issue, there it was. I could hardly believe it. When I saw the photo it hit me pretty hard. I felt so proud yet humbled by the experience.

I wish I could say this was a dream come true but I never even dreamt it. I always felt like it was unobtainable. Mostly because I had always seen my heroes in the mags. Magazines were such an important part of BMX from the 80s, 90s, & early 2000s. Regardless if you rode dirt, park, street, vert, or flatland.

When I look at this photo now I can still remember the feeling I had the first time I saw it. As I sit here and type this I just now realized I got my first BMX bike in 1983 and 20 years later I got this photo (2003) and I'm still riding in 2023. What a trip! That photo was a spec in time, captured in print, from that seemingly normal day. I was able to get quite a few photos in the mags over the years but there was something about this particular photo that felt extra special to me.

I'd like to thank @mulligan4130 for taking the time to shoot this incredible photo. Forever humbled - forever grateful.

I've done hundreds of BMX shows with Rob Nolli ove

I've done hundreds of BMX shows with Rob Nolli over the last 25 years. We've traveled to over 40 states and 8 different countries together. We've done shows in front of 70,000 people and some in front of only 3. I saw Rob win the bronze medal at the X Games, and take home several victories at contests around the US. I've watched him pull tricks for the first time leading to a celebration and take gnarly crashes without so much as a complaint. However my best memories are traveling on summer tour with GT Bikes. Rob was the captain of our crew and he always made sure we carried on the summer tour tradition and did a little bit of sightseeing on our trek. Whether it was visiting Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, Roswell NM, the Statue Of Liberty, or some shady cave on the side of the road, Rob was determined to enjoy life outside of riding.

I think this caption I posted on a photo about Rob Nolli from 2008 sums him up pretty good:

Doing demos with Rob Nolli is a great thing! He's an amazing rider who pushes the limits every day. I would be willing to say there isn't another rider on the planet whos done it as good, for as long, and kills it every time. Every time! Even at 8am which is a skill of it's own.

I got my start with GT because of Rob which snowballed into a life I couldn't have dreamed of. Without Rob none of it would have been possible. What's more when I had my stroke back in 2016 and was in a coma for 14 days Rob was doing demos in TX, and donated an entire weeks worth of pay to me. Seeing Rob go through his open heart surgery just showed us all he was human, then he went right back to being his superhero self!

So happy 50th birthday Super Rob! Let's keep the dream going!

Hey everybody! I just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of you who wished me a happy birthday! It was great to see some people I haven’t heard from in awhile as well as old classmates and long time friends. It was also nice to read so many positive comments in a world full of negativity. I’m just a middle aged guy still living a childhood dream. Even more so appreciative and humbled by the stroke I had 6 years ago and feel lucky and grateful to be healthy and strong enough to ride into age 48. Here’s a clip of my last day as a 47 year old. Throwback Thursday: October 2019. This is the cleanest double UFO I’ve done. I’ve pulled 5 total. Usually it takes me 30 min or so to pull one and then I’m over it for awhile. I don't have many photos when I first started riding. There really wasn't much to look at back then. Recently my buddy Mike Berry, who started riding BMX freestyle at the same time I did, went home and visited his parents house. He ended up finding a couple of photos I don't remember ever seeing. It turns out these photos were taken in early December 1986 right after I had just gotten my first freestyle bike. This is the earliest photo of me riding this bike. Mike is also shown on my bike which didn't have any pegs on it yet. Just forkstanders on the front. He didn't get his first freestyle bike until a few weeks later at Christmas. At this point the only trick I could do was an endo. Both of us staged these tricks for the photos. I never learned Miami Hoppers which made this photo that much more hilarious. At least it looks like we're having a good time!

🚨Throwback Thursday - No handed hang 10s🚨

I can vividly remember a photo of Kevin Jones doing a no handed hang 10 in the magazine in the late 80s. At that time it was one of the most advanced tricks out. Keep in mind hang 5s had only been around for a couple of years. Back then I would feather my brakes on all of my rolling tricks as most riders did. This trick was quite different in that you had to take your hands off and obviously go brakeless. I didn’t have a video to go by, just the photo from the magazine. It seemed like a simple concept but I wasn’t factoring in taking a hard crash. I would place my left knee against the bars and regain my balance, then place my right foot on the peg with my knee against the bars and as soon as I took my hands off... I’d flip over the bars. Over and over and over same result. Each crash as hard as the last one and increasingly painful. I tried it for several weeks and all I had to show for was a massive bruise on my leg. I limped quite a bit during the process of learning this trick as I’d get caught up in the bike a lot. I remember thinking as badly as I wanted this trick maybe it just wasn’t going to happen. I had almost given up. Then one night towards the end of a long session I decided to give it another try. After a few tries and coming up with the typical results (several more crashes) something clicked, and I felt the balance point. I was able to go 15 feet or so. From that point on I was able to do it proper. I remember being so stoked yet relieved. I’ll never forget that feeling of coasting a no handed hang 10 for the first time!

The slider. A flatland trick that almost every old school rider learned back in the day! I can vividly remember seeing my now friend Derek Craig ride flatland for the first time back in the summer of 1985. I had never seen bmx flatland before so it was all a blur, but one of the tricks that stood out to me was the slider. I loved the noise the tire made as it vibrated against the ground while rolling backwards. I knew I had to learn it! In fact it was one of the first tricks I learned. I rarely do them now unless I'm breaking in a new tire or in this case, my tire is already trashed and needs to be replaced. Every time I do this trick it takes me back to a simpler time and it's still a lot of fun! 👊🏻🤙🏻

🚨Freestyle Friday! Yesterday was one of those days where I didn’t feel very motivated to ride. But I got out there anyway. After riding for about an hour and calling it a day, my mind wouldn’t turn off. So I headed back out with less than an hour of daylight remaining, and stumbled onto a ride out for the rollback kneelie. The challenge was I’ve never done one in the driveway in a circle. After a bunch of attempts I was able to pull a few with the new ride out... and man was I stoked! The taste of victory, even though small, made the session special! 🔥

Happy Halloween 🎃 Here’s me in my Darth Vader costume circa 1981. I was 7 years old. It was a different time in 1981... you couldn’t just go to Walmart and buy Star Wars costumes! Not only were quality Star Wars items rare we didn’t even have a Walmart back then. But that didn’t stop my mom... She took my Darth Vader action figure case and made a mold from it out of paper macheté, added some paint, made a chest box out of cardboard, and a cape... Then I added my lightsaber. I ended up winning an award for one of the best costumes in my 1st grade class. It was a good Halloween. Thanks mom! Love you! ❤️❤️❤️
